<h1>Board Approves 10 New Special Economic Zones, Including Biotech and IT Hubs Across India; 4 Co-Developer Proposals Passed.</h1> The Board of Approval for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) convened on June 2, 2009, granting 8 formal and 2 in-principle approvals for new SEZs. The approvals included three biotech SEZs in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, and three IT/ITES SEZs in Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. In-principle approvals were given for a multi-product SEZ in Andhra Pradesh and a multi-services SEZ in Maharashtra. Additionally, four proposals for co-developer status were approved. To date, 568 formal approvals have been granted, with 315 SEZs notified, resulting in significant investment and employment growth.
