Kolkata, May 28 (PTI) Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Pvt Ltd (JTRWF), a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited, on Thursday said it has signed a long-term supply agreement with European rail wagon manufacturer Tatravagonka a.s for supply of rail wheels, axles and wheelsets.
The agreement, signed for a period of 10 years, will see commercial supplies commence by the end of calendar year 2027, the company said in a statement.
JTRWF said its upcoming greenfield manufacturing facility in Odisha, being developed with an estimated investment of Rs 3,000 crore, will have a planned annual production capacity of 1 lakh wheelsets and is expected to export around 50,000 wheelsets annually to the European market.
Tatravagonka a.s, which manufactures and maintains freight wagons for customers across Europe and other regions, currently consumes around 20,000-30,000 wheelsets annually for its operations, the statement said.
"This agreement represents an important milestone not only for Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, but also for India's rail manufacturing ecosystem. Through this agreement, India, which was a net importer of wheelsets, will now become a major exporter to the world," Jupiter Wagons Managing Director Vivek Lohia said.
He said the company expects to generate Rs 1,000-1,500 crore in revenue from exports in the coming years.
Lohia said the agreement validates India's manufacturing capabilities and strengthens the country's position in the global rail supply chain.
The company said nearly 40-50 per cent of the Odisha plant's production capacity is expected to cater to export markets over the long term. PTI BSM RG
