The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has revised the base year of National Accounts to 2022–23, with the objective of more accurately reflecting the current structure of the economy, incorporating updated data sources and aligning estimation practices with evolving international standards. In alignment with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at National level, the base year for Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) will also be revised by States/UTs to ensure more accurate, consistent and comparable estimates of the States’ economic performance over time.
In order to help the States/UTs to understand the changes introduced at the National level and for standardization of compilation practices across states, to promote uniformity, transparency, and comparability in Regional Accounts Statistics, National Accounts Division (NAD) of the National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), is organizing a three-day All-India Workshop on State Income and Related Aggregates with new base year (2022-2023) for officers/officials of the Directorates of Economics & Statistics of the States/UTs during 8th to 10th April, 2026, at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Methodological changes and other issues in compilation of GSDP will be discussed in detail for all the institutional and industry sectors of the economy. In addition, draft uniform guidelines for compilation of District Domestic Product (DDP) by the State/UT will also be discussed.
The inaugural session will be held on 8th April, 2026 in the presence of Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary (MoSPI) and Shri Peeyush Kumar, Principal Secretary (Planning), Andhra Pradesh. Around 150 officers/officials of MoSPI and the Directorates of Economics & Statistics (DES) of the States/UTs will participate in the three-day long workshop.
Base year revision for national and state accounts supports more accurate, consistent, and comparable economic estimates. The base year for National Accounts has been revised to 2022-23 to reflect the current structure of the economy, incorporate updated data sources, and align estimation practices with international standards. States and Union Territories are also to revise the base year for Gross State Domestic Product so that state-level estimates remain accurate, consistent, and comparable. A three-day workshop is being organised to discuss methodological changes in GSDP compilation and draft uniform guidelines for District Domestic Product.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
