Regional Moot Court Rounds Focus on WTO Law and Contemporary Trade Issues

The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, supported the 24th Edition of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (West and South Asia Regional Round), as a Platinum Sponsor, organised by the Research & Advisory Centre for International Economic Law (RACIEL), National Law University, Jodhpur.

The four-day regional rounds brought together law students from leading universities in India and abroad to deliberate on complex issues in international trade law. The competition served as a platform for law students to enhance their knowledge of international trade law and WTO dispute settlement procedures, develop their legal skills, and enhance the capacity for meaningful engagement on contemporary trade law issues.

CTIL research staff actively contributed to the competition by serving as judges for the preliminary rounds, semi-final round, and final round, alongside other distinguished experts from academia and practice in the field of international economic law. The evaluation process reflected a high standard of legal scrutiny and emphasized on practical insight.

As part of its engagement, CTIL also participated in the Sponsors’ Fair, where it made a presentation highlighting its work in the domain of international trade and investment law, including its research initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and contributions to policy discourse.

The inaugural session marked the commencement of the competition, setting the tone for academic deliberation and professional exchange among participants, judges, and organisers. Over the course of the event, participants engaged in multiple rounds of oral arguments, networking sessions, and discussions, culminating in the final round and closing ceremony.

The competition reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts between academic institutions and policy think tanks to enhance the understanding of international trade law. CTIL’s continued association with such initiatives reflects its commitment to strengthening legal capacity and advancing discourse in international economic law.
