Ahmedabad, Mar 20 (PTI) Gujarat is gearing up to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030 by following the development path envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday.

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Gujarat Annual Convention and Conference here, Patel said the state government is committed to providing all necessary support to industries to achieve this target.

Despite having only 5 per cent of the country's population, Gujarat contributes 8 per cent to India's GDP, and the aim is to take it beyond 10 per cent, Patel said.

"Gujarat is gearing up to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030 by following the development path envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To achieve this target, the state government is committed to providing all necessary support to industries," the CM said.

Gujarat plays a major role in India's economy, contributing 17 per cent to the total manufacturing output and about 33 per cent to national exports, he pointed out.

"The state's MSME sector has grown significantly, from 1.85 lakh units in 2001-02 to 27.9 lakh now. Gujarat also handles 40 per cent of the country's total cargo. Its sector-wise share includes 33 per cent in chemicals, 19.2 per cent in pharmaceutical exports, and 80 per cent in diamond exports," he informed.

Development was previously limited to the Vapi-Vadodara belt, but, under the Prime Minister's vision, the concept of inclusive development across the state was implemented by strengthening infrastructure, water, and electricity facilities, Patel said.

As a result of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit started in 2003, Gujarat has today become the most preferred destination for global investors, he said while citing Micron Technology as an example.

"Advanced industries like semiconductors have started coming to Gujarat, trusting the PM and turning projects that seemed impossible for decades into reality," he said.

Gujarat is a policy-driven state which is designed to provide transparency to industries at every stage, and they are updated as per changing needs, he said.

It has prepared a roadmap for 'Developed India by 2047' and has already begun implementing it, Patel claimed. PTI KVM PD BNM

Economic development goal: state pursues large-scale economy growth through industrial support, infrastructure upgrades and policy transparency. Gujarat sets an economic development goal to become a large-scale economy by following central policy direction, with the state committing targeted support to industries through policy-driven facilitation, transparency, and updated regulatory measures. Operational measures emphasize infrastructure, water and electricity improvements, inclusive regional development beyond traditional industrial belts, expansion of the MSME sector, export-oriented sectoral strengths, investor attraction via the Vibrant Gujarat initiative, and a long-term roadmap toward national development milestones, with infrastructure upgrades and investment facilitation as core mechanisms.
