Retired civil servant gets five-year PMLA sentence under Sections 3 and 4 for land allotment money laundering
A special PMLA court in Ahmedabad sentenced a retired senior civil servant to five years' imprisonment and a Rs 50,000 fine for money laundering linked to the concessional allotment of government land to a private company between 2003 and 2006 while serving as district collector. Convicted under Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the individual's attached properties remain confiscated to the Central government. Investigators alleged misuse of official position, receipt and layering of illicit funds through the spouse's bank accounts and partnership in an associated firm, repayment of personal loans, and purchase of land. The case stemmed from earlier corruption and IPC FIRs over a Rs 1.20 crore loss to the exchequer. The individual had also received a separate five-year sentence in 2025 in another land-allotment corruption case and remains in custody.
