New joint committee launched to freeze cyber fraud transactions and safeguard vulnerable customers' deposits through faster bank coordination
Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister directed the creation of a joint committee comprising Home Department officials, state police, and nodal officers of various banks to protect citizens' funds in cyber fraud cases. The committee will coordinate freezing of fraudulent transactions, building on instances where 100 per cent of amounts reported via cybercrime helpline 1930 were successfully blocked. At the State-Level Bankers Committee meeting, authorities reviewed settlement of unclaimed financial assets and highlighted the duty of banks to exercise vigilance in detecting suspicious, high-value transfers, especially involving vulnerable customers. The initiative reinforces regulatory and law enforcement collaboration to prevent and mitigate cybercrime-related financial losses.
