India adjusts flights and issues NOTAMs to manage Ethiopian volcanic ash, says operations safe and stable
India's civil aviation ministry, in coordination with air traffic control, the national meteorological agency, airlines, and international aviation bodies, is managing operational risks from volcanic ash plumes originating in Ethiopia. Regulatory measures include issuance of NOTAMs, rerouting, altitude adjustments, and pre-emptive cancellations and delays of certain domestic and international services while aircraft undergo safety checks. Authorities state there is presently no cause for concern, with overall operations remaining smooth. Forecasts indicate temporary ash influence over several northern and western states, with clouds expected to move away from Indian airspace by the evening of November 25, 2025.
