Crop Insurance Expanded to Floods and Wildlife, Full MSP Procurement for Pulses, New Support to Boost Farm Incomes
Union Agriculture Minister announced that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana will now expressly cover crop losses caused by flooding, waterlogging, and wild animal damage, addressing a long-standing grievance of farmers in Maharashtra. The government will also procure the entire tur, masoor, chana, and urad output at Minimum Support Price to secure remunerative returns. Additional measures include establishing a Rs 70-crore Clean Plant Center for Oranges in Nagpur, financial and technological assistance to nurseries, promotion of mechanisation and drip irrigation through subsidies, and directing ICAR to undertake farmer demand-driven research, all aimed at increasing production, lowering costs, and improving farm incomes.
