US sanctions India-based traders and others under Iran counterterrorism authorities, including NSPM-2, over Iranian petroleum and bitumen shipments
The US government has imposed sanctions on multiple India-based entities and unnamed individuals, along with entities in other countries, for involvement in the sale and transport of Iranian petroleum and petroleum products. These designations by the Departments of State and Treasury add the targeted parties to the Specially Designated Nationals List and cover shipping networks, an airline, vessels, aircraft, and petroleum traders. One India-based trader is cited for importing over USD 8 million of Iranian-origin bitumen between October 2024 and June 2025. The measures, taken under counterterrorism and Iran-related authorities including NSPM-2, aim to disrupt funding for Iran's alleged support of terrorism and destabilising regional activities.
