GeM and UN Women join forces to boost women-led businesses in public procurement under Womaniya and SDG 5
Government e-Marketplace (GeM), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and UN Women have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to promote gender-responsive public procurement in India. The MoU aims to increase participation of women-led enterprises, including informal-sector entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups, in government procurement through GeM's Womaniya initiative. UN Women will develop training materials, advise on global best practices, design validation criteria for women-led businesses and support onboarding of programme participants. GeM will conduct training and sensitisation programmes for government buyers, organize onboarding workshops, create vernacular resources, and facilitate linkages with government labs and R&D institutes, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5.
