Opposition leader, son to stay in same jail; court allows medical care, local hearings despite prosecution objections
A Special MP/MLA Court in Rampur ordered that a senior opposition leader and his son, both recently convicted and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for securing two PAN cards using different dates of birth, must remain in Rampur district jail and cannot be transferred elsewhere without prior court permission. The order, passed on the leader's application citing poor health and numerous pending criminal cases largely in Rampur, also directs that hearings be conducted in Rampur and that he receive Class-I jail facilities and adequate medical care. The court rejected prosecution objections that prisoner transfer is purely administrative, thereby granting significant custodial relief while multiple other criminal cases, including cheating, forgery, conspiracy, and land-grab allegations, remain pending against both accused.
