Power consumption drops 6% to 132 billion units in October as cooler weather and rain reduce cooling appliance use
Power consumption fell 6% year-on-year to 132 billion units in October from 140.47 billion units, driven by reduced use of cooling appliances following unseasonal rainfall and the onset of winter. Peak demand met in October was 210.71 GW, down from 219.22 GW in October last year; peak demand reached an all-time high of about 250 GW in May 2024, with prior highs of 243.27 GW in September 2023 and 242.77 GW in June 2024. Experts expect demand and consumption to remain subdued in November as temperatures moderate.
