Election authorities accept Bihar SIR extract and Aadhaar as identity for voter list cleanup; documents and notices issued
Election authorities have designated the Bihar electoral roll published after the special intensive revision and Aadhaar as acceptable identity documents for a voter list cleanup in 12 states and union territories. Electoral registration officers will issue notices where prior SIR details are missing or inconsistent; electors may submit specified documents-government or PSU ID, pre-1987 government-issued documents, birth or education certificates, residence or caste certificates, NRC/family registers, land allotment papers, Aadhaar and an extract of the Bihar SIR roll dated July 1, 2025. The Bihar extract may establish parentage, reducing additional citizenship proof to date of birth. Aadhaar is to be used solely as proof of identity, not citizenship, in line with the Aadhaar Act and recent higher court guidance.
