Call for new laws and training to protect girls from online harassment, deepfakes, trafficking and data misuse
The Chief Justice of India warned that the girl child faces heightened vulnerability in the digital era-from online harassment, cyberbullying and digital stalking to misuse of personal data and deepfake imagery-and urged enactment of specialised statutes alongside targeted training for law enforcement, decision-makers, police, educators, health professionals and local administrators. He called for laws on online sexual exploitation, digital trafficking and cyber harassment to be paired with robust enforcement, education and awareness initiatives, and for digital governance to prioritise protection so technology empowers rather than exploits girls. A judicial committee, with child-rights partners, also released a child-rights legal handbook.
