Public sector banks sanction 5.79 lakh rooftop solar loans totaling Rs 10,907 crore under streamlined, collateral-free digital scheme
Public sector banks have sanctioned over 5.79 lakh loan applications totaling Rs.10,907 crore under the national rooftop-solar loan scheme as of September 2025. The program lawfully streamlines credit delivery via integrated digital portals, enabling collateral-free loans up to Rs.2 lakh at competitive rates, longer tenors tied to savings, a six-month moratorium, lower borrower margins, and digital sanctions based on self-declaration. Administrative amendments expanded eligibility by permitting co-applicants, removed capacity caps, and simplified documentation. Financial and renewable energy ministries, working with state banking committees and district managers, oversee implementation and monitoring to enhance uptake and compliance.
