Temporary restraining order blocks federal administration from deploying National Guard units into a state after lawsuit filed by two states
A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the federal administration from deploying any National Guard units into one state, after two states sued contesting recent transfers of federally controlled guard personnel. The states argue the transfers circumvented an earlier order limiting deployment of state guard forces, exceed presidential authority-permitted only to repel invasion, suppress rebellion or enforce federal law-and infringe state sovereignty. The court found the scale of local protests did not justify federalized troop deployments and allowed further briefing on an amended restraining order sought by the states and municipality.
