Hospitality group urges peace, judicial inquiry and local-led recovery measures after deadly clashes deepen tourism crisis
A regional hospitality association urged government and residents to restore peace after violent clashes that killed four people, calling for a judicial inquiry into the deaths. The group warned that successive shocks this season - a sharp drop in tourist arrivals, heavy rains and the recent violence - have deepened an economic crisis threatening livelihoods across hotels, guesthouses, homestays and related services, many burdened by bank loans. It demanded safeguards for land and rights, inclusive, bottom-up consultations that respect local voices, traditional knowledge and ecological limits, and decentralised economic measures to protect Ladakh's fragile environment, culture and social harmony.
