Centre to pay flood-hit farmers after damage assessments; farmers want direct transfers as state disputes release and adequacy
A Union minister said farmers in a flood-hit state have lost faith in the state government and want compensation paid directly into their accounts rather than routed through the state. The minister stated the Prime Minister announced a Rs 1,600 crore package and ordered transparent damage assessments before central payments, asserting the Centre will pay farmers after assessment. The state government maintains none of the announced funds have been released, moved a legislative resolution condemning the Centre's response and called the package inadequate compared with the state's estimated losses after widespread flooding and crop damage.
