<h1>Senior advocate, 75, reappointed as Attorney General for two years from October 1 after incumbent's term expired</h1> A senior advocate has been re-appointed as the country's attorney general for two years effective October 1, following the expiry of the incumbent's three-year term on September 30. The attorney general, a constitutional office appointed by the president on the Union government's recommendation, may appear in any court and both advises the government on complex legal issues and handles government litigation. The re-appointee, 75, succeeded a predecessor in 2022 and has decades of Supreme Court practice across constitutional, indirect tax, human rights, civil, criminal, consumer and service law, has represented central and state governments, universities and public sector bodies, was designated senior advocate in 1997 and served on the Law Commission in 2010.
