<h1>Government to deploy 97,500+ solar 4G towers nationwide with Rs37,000 crore funding, indigenous stack upgradeable to 5G</h1> The government will commission over 97,500 mobile 4G towers nationwide, including 4,679 in one state, under a centrally funded rollout costing Rs 37,000 crore and involving a state-owned telecom provider and private vendors for core, radio and integration services. The project includes deployments under the Digital Bharat Nidhi and expanded BharatNet, optical fiber installation across thousands of gram panchayats, and obligations to extend service to previously uncovered villages. Towers are solar-powered and the indigenous 4G stack is software-upgradable to 5G. The operator offers free 4G SIM upgrades to legacy customers and projects completion of remaining sites by March 2026.
