<h1>Central government to borrow Rs 6.77 lakh crore in H2 FY2025-26; total gross borrowing cut to Rs 14.72 lakh crore</h1> The central government will borrow Rs 6.77 lakh crore in H2 (Oct-Mar) of FY2025-26, trimming the year's gross market borrowing to Rs 14.72 lakh crore, Rs 10,000 crore below the Budget estimate of Rs 14.82 lakh crore after undershooting H1 by Rs 5,000 crore and lowering H2 estimates by a similar amount. The H2 borrowing will include Rs 10,000 crore of Sovereign Green Bonds and be executed through 22 weekly auctions through March 6, 2026. The government reiterated commitment to a FY26 fiscal deficit target of 4.4% of GDP (down from 4.8%).
