Canada and Mexico pledge to deepen economic ties, coordinate on USMCA 2026 review and counter tariff threats
Canadian and Mexican leaders pledged to deepen bilateral economic ties and coordinate strategies ahead of a 2026 review of the USMCA amid tariff threats from the U.S. government. They agreed to expand trade and investment across sectors, explore maritime routes to bypass U.S. transit, and form joint teams to review and preserve trilateral free-trade protections while addressing sectoral tariffs such as those on steel and aluminum. The governments also committed to continued high-level meetings and cooperation on security, agriculture, energy, finance, health and environmental issues to strengthen regional economic resilience.
