Aviation regulator clears helicopter operations for 2025 pilgrimage with stricter pilot rules, airworthiness checks and expanded safety staffing
Aviation regulator approved resumption of helicopter operations for the 2025 Char Dham Yatra after monsoon, following inspections of helipads, helicopters, operators and support facilities and coordination meetings between the central aviation ministry, state government and relevant aviation authorities. Approval covers charter flights from the regional base to four shrines and shuttle services from three cluster helipads, with six shuttle and seven charter operators cleared. Enhanced safety measures include stricter pilot qualifications and training, airworthiness oversight, operational protocols, added air traffic and meteorological staffing, control-room manning, operator briefings and continuous DGCA monitoring, with a stated zero-tolerance approach to safety lapses.
