Investigation clears zoological rescue and rehab centre of alleged violations; complaints closed, report sealed, defamation remedies allowed
The Supreme Court accepted a special investigation team's report clearing a zoological rescue and rehabilitation centre of alleged legal violations, recording no contravention of multiple statutes including wildlife, customs, foreign exchange, anti-money laundering and CITES regulations. The court closed the listed complaints, found imports were permit-backed and welfare standards met or exceeded regulatory benchmarks, and rejected allegations of smuggling, financial impropriety and misuse of resources. The SIT report was sealed with its full copy provided to the centre under confidentiality; a public summary may be retained. The court barred fresh proceedings on the same allegations, allowed remedies for defamatory publications, and awarded honoraria to SIT members.
