<h1>Sealed SIT report on rescue centre probe accepted; inquiry covers unlawful animal imports, wildlife law, welfare, and financial irregularities</h1> The Supreme Court received a sealed report from a court-appointed SIT, headed by a former judge, investigating a zoological rescue and rehabilitation centre in Gujarat. The SIT was ordered to probe allegations including unlawful acquisition and cross-border import of animals (notably elephants), compliance with the Wildlife Protection Act, CITES and import-export laws, animal husbandry and welfare standards, mortalities, location and climatic concerns, purported private collection/breeding activities, and financial irregularities including money laundering. The sealed report on these inquiries was accepted on record and a further hearing is scheduled.
