State to run caste census Sept 22 to Oct 7 under Section 11(1), 60-question survey and household geotagging
The state government will conduct a Social and Educational Survey (caste census) from Sept 22 to Oct 7 at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore, using a 60-question form and deploying around 1,75,000 government school teachers paid up to Rs 20,000 each; remuneration (~Rs 325 crore) is the major cost. The state commission for backward classes will compile the data and aims to report by December. Households will be geo-tagged, assigned Unique Household IDs, and ration card/Aadhaar details linked to mobile numbers; provisions include advance Asha worker visits, an online option and a helpline. The Cabinet cited Section 11(1) of the state backward-classes statute and nullified the 2015 survey.
