Parliamentary committee launches inquiry into legal, economic and policy impacts of UK-India free trade agreement under CRaGA scrutiny
A House of Lords international agreements committee has opened an inquiry into the legal, economic and policy implications of the UK-India free trade agreement (labelled CETA in government statements) as part of the statutory scrutiny required before the treaty can take effect. The cross-party panel is soliciting written evidence by October 14 on benefits and risks, sectoral and consumer impacts across the UK, wider economic, social and environmental effects, interaction with domestic trade and industrial strategies, and geopolitical consequences; a selected group will give oral evidence and the committee will publish a report to inform ratification under the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act.
