India and US make steady progress in five rounds of trade talks aiming first-phase deal by November 2025
Bilateral trade negotiations between India and the United States, initiated in March and now five rounds in, are reported to be progressing positively with both governments satisfied with talks aimed at concluding a first-phase agreement by November 2025. The pact seeks to more than double bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030. Negotiations stalled over US demands for greater market access in sensitive agricultural and dairy sectors and follow imposition of steep US tariffs on certain Indian goods and an additional 25% levy linked to oil purchases, measures India has deemed unfair; dates for a sixth round remain unsettled.
