Ministers back WTO-led development focus, food security safeguards, stronger S&D, dispute settlement reform, fair e-commerce rules
At a regional trade ministers' meeting, a participating state reaffirmed support for a WTO-centred, development-focused multilateral trading system, advocating permanent public stockholding safeguards for food security, strengthened special and differential treatment for developing countries, and restoration of a fully functional two-tier dispute settlement mechanism. The delegation urged export diversification, de-risking of supply chains, predictable market access, and cautioned against weaponising export measures. It proposed cooperative workstreams on fair, transparent e-commerce regulation and showcased national digital public infrastructure as replicable tools for MSME market access, while stressing equity in climate-linked trade measures.
