India and EU push to conclude comprehensive FTA by year-end, resolving rules of origin, tariffs and non-tariff barriers
India and the European Union are advancing negotiations toward a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) with two imminent rounds aimed at resolving outstanding issues on rules of origin, market access, tariffs for wine and dairy, and non-tariff barriers, targeting conclusion by year-end. Over 11 of the FTA chapters are reported closed, with key chapters pending. Parallel processes include adoption of a new strategic vision for bilateral ties, establishment of defense cooperation frameworks and a security-of-information pact, and expanded technology collaboration under the Trade and Technology Council. Multiple high-level meetings and ministerial dialogues are scheduled to finalize legal and implementation frameworks.
