<h1>One-time irrevocable switch allowed from Unified Pension Scheme to National Pension System; exercise by September 30, 2025, with conditions</h1> A one-time, one-way switch is available allowing eligible central government employees who previously chose the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to revert to the National Pension System (NPS) subject to conditions: the switch is irrevocable, must be exercised at least one year before superannuation or three months before voluntary retirement, and is barred where removal, dismissal, compulsory retirement as penalty, or ongoing/contemplated disciplinary proceedings apply. Failure to opt keeps the employee in UPS by default. Employees who move to NPS cannot return to UPS after September 30, 2025, which is also the last date for NPS retirees and eligible employees to opt into UPS.
