Chief minister blames previous government for Rs 76,000 crore debt, subsidy misuse, industrial concessions and GST revenue shortfall
The state chief minister blamed the previous state government for a fiscal crisis, alleging it spent over Rs 5,000 crore on subsidies, granted undue industrial concessions (including exemption from registration fees and transfer of 5,000 bighas for Rs 1 crore), and left the state with Rs 76,000 crore of debt. He said GST compensation fell from Rs 16,000 crore to Rs 3,000 crore, revenue deficit grants were cut from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 3,000 crore, and a Centre restriction blocked an additional Rs 1,600 crore loan after restoration of the old pension scheme. Proposed measures include department mergers, protecting hydropower interests and conditioning Kishau Dam negotiations on recovery of BBMB arrears; the opposition urged practical solutions and disputed some allegations.
