<h1>New Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 imposes criminal penalties, reporting duties, and travel document controls</h1> The Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, came into force on September 1, 2025, creating a unified statutory regime replacing four prior laws and imposing new criminal and administrative controls over foreigners and immigration. The Act criminalizes use or supply of forged travel documents or visas with imprisonment of two to seven years and fines of INR 1-10 lakh, and penalizes entry without valid documents with up to five years' imprisonment and fines up to INR 5 lakh. It mandates reporting of foreigner information by hotels, educational and medical institutions, requires carriers to provide advance passenger and crew data, and empowers the central government to regulate access to premises frequented by foreigners.
