Jaipur, Aug 31 (PTI) Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said the imposition of tariffs by the US has left the state's handicraft exporters worrying about a potential decline in exports.

Gehlot said that Jaipur and Jodhpur, key hubs for handicrafts, are bearing the brunt of the situation.

He warned that reduced exports could severely affect the state's economy and jeopardise the livelihoods of artisans and workers in these industries.

In a post on X, he described the situation as "unpleasant" and urged the Central government to take swift and decisive measures to mitigate the challenges posed by the US tariffs.

"The Central government must take immediate and concrete steps to address this challenge. It is essential to reassure exporters that the government stands by them in every situation so that their morale remains intact and their livelihoods continue," the former chief minister said.
