Workshop builds coastal states' capacity to develop SEEA-aligned ocean accounts for better natural-asset valuation and policy
A federal statistics ministry and a state economics directorate held a workshop to build coastal states' capacity to develop Ocean Accounts aligned with the SEEA and forthcoming SNA-2025 guidance. Participants included central and state statistical bodies, ocean science agencies, fisheries and remote-sensing institutes, and university experts. Presentations addressed integrating ocean ecosystem data with GDP, fisheries and satellite data applications, climate impacts, and blue economy sectors. The meeting produced a roadmap emphasizing institutional coordination, state-level capacity building, data standardization, and policy-relevant accounting to improve transparency of natural-asset valuation and support evidence-based coastal and ocean governance.
