India and Africa urged to double bilateral trade by 2030, shift to value-added, tech-driven agriculture and manufacturing
The Union Commerce & Industry Minister urged India and African countries to work to double bilateral trade by 2030, shifting from raw exports to value-added production and focusing on technology-driven agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare, and manufacturing. He noted current bilateral trade is roughly balanced (exports about USD 42.7 billion; imports about USD 40 billion) but highlighted untapped potential, notably a large vehicle import gap where Africa imports ~USD 20 billion of motor vehicles while India supplies ~USD 2 billion. The address emphasized complementarities in critical minerals, food security, services and skills, promoted digital payments to lower transaction costs, recalled pandemic-era support, and called for coordinated multilateral engagement.
