Political parties seek extension of September 1 deadline for filing claims in Special Intensive Revision after surge in submissions
Two political parties moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of the September 1 deadline to file claims and objections in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls; the court agreed to hear the pleas on September 1. Counsel for the parties urged extension citing a sharp rise in filings-about 80,000 claims filed before an August 22 order and 95,000 afterwards-and said requests to the Election Commission were not acted upon. Earlier orders allowed online submission of claims, required publication of details of 6.5 million excluded voters and permitted Aadhaar as identity proof; the SIR reduced the voter count from 7.9 crore to 7.24 crore.
