Four-member SIT to investigate zoological rescue centre's compliance with Wild Life (Protection) Act, zoo rules and CITES
A court constituted a four-member special investigation team to probe petitions alleging a zoological rescue and rehabilitation centre's non-compliance with domestic wildlife and zoo regulations and possible improper acquisition of animals, including cross-border transfers. The centre acknowledged the court order and committed to full cooperation and transparency while continuing animal care. The court expressly disclaimed any view on the merits or on statutory authorities' functioning. The SIT's remit includes examining acquisition records, compliance with the Wild Life (Protection) Act and zoo rules, CITES obligations, and relevant import-export and statutory requirements for live animals.
