Centre orders mandatory eKYC recheck of NFSA beneficiaries; states keep inclusion rules as disputes over deletions continue
The central government instructed the state to recheck National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries via mandatory eKYC - a process directed by the Supreme Court - and states retain responsibility for applying their inclusion/exclusion criteria; the Centre says it has not removed any of the 1.41 crore approved beneficiaries in the state and granted extensions to complete the recheck. The state disputes this, asserting a federal report seeks deletion of 8,02,493 ration cards and claiming 1.53 crore beneficiaries currently receive food grains, and vows to prevent unwarranted removals.
