Highways authority to pay three months' compensation to toll operators for revenue shortfall from new annual FASTag pass
A central highways authority will compensate toll plaza operators for three months for shortfalls in user-fee collections caused by a newly introduced annual FASTag pass for private non-commercial vehicles. The authority announced a uniform compensation mechanism applicable to existing contracts and bids invited during the three-month window; after that period bidders will be provided actual annual-pass usage data and no further compensation will be offered. Annual-pass usage will be determined from transaction data supplied by the digital payments network. The pass permits non-commercial vehicles unlimited crossings at up to 200 toll plazas per year for a one-time fee of Rs 3,000 and has been rolled out at roughly 1,150 booths.
