Parliament Monsoon session disrupted daily over special electoral roll revision; government advances bills to remove arrested ministers, PM from office
Parliament's month-long Monsoon session was marked by near-daily disruptions over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, with opposition members repeatedly disrupting proceedings during Question Hour and protests that included slogans, placards and torn papers. Despite the disruptions, the government advanced its legislative agenda; draft bills proposing removal of the prime minister, state chief ministers and ministers arrested on serious criminal charges were introduced and referred to a joint parliamentary committee. The Speaker criticized what was described as planned, unparliamentary behaviour undermining the dignity of the House.
