Election body allows omitted voters to submit Aadhaar for inclusion; deletions barred without inquiry and fair chance
Following a Supreme Court direction, the election authority instructed that persons omitted from a state's draft electoral roll may submit a copy of their Aadhaar to seek inclusion. The authority reiterated that claims and objections must be decided by the electoral registration officer not before seven days after eligibility verification, and that under Special Intensive Revision orders no name may be deleted from the August 1 draft without a speaking order following inquiry and a fair opportunity. A public list of about 6.5 million excluded names is posted on district websites and aggrieved persons may file claims with Aadhaar copies.
