<h1>Government moves to decriminalise 288 provisions and amend 355 laws to ease living and business</h1> The government introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to decriminalise 288 provisions and amend 355 provisions overall across multiple central laws to promote ease of living and ease of doing business. The measure-an extension of a 2023 reform that decriminalised 183 provisions-was referred to a Lok Sabha select committee for report by the next session. Provisions include decriminalisation and penalty rationalisation in statutes such as motor vehicle, municipal, transport, tea, metrology and drugs laws; shifts from imprisonment to warnings or monetary penalties for minor/default offences; administrative imposition of fines; graduated penalties for repeat offences; vehicle-registration and licence-relief measures; and changes to property-tax valuation and apprenticeship penalties.
