Manufacturing Firm Reports 50.5% Profit Drop Due to Railway Wheelset Shortage and Inspection Suspension
A manufacturing company reported a 50.5% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 29 crore for the June quarter, attributed to a shortage of wagon wheelsets supplied by a government railway entity. Revenue from operations decreased by 16.3% to Rs 911 crore, resulting in pressure on profit margins. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) dropped 36% to Rs 79 crore, with the EBITDA margin contracting by 267 basis points to 8.7%. Earnings per share fell from Rs 1.50 to Rs 0.75, and the profit after tax margin declined from 5.4% to 3.2%. The company noted that the supply issue was industry-wide and has since improved, normalizing revenues. Additionally, a temporary revenue reduction occurred due to a suspension of inspections by a railway standards organization.
