The Board of Approval of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) met here today to consider proposals for setting up of Special Economic Zones and also to approve other miscellaneous requests pertaining to SEZs. A total of  34 proposals for setting up of SEZs, including 3 proposals for conversion of in-principle approvals in to formal approvals were considered   The Board recommended grant of 23 Formal approvals and 6 In-Principle Approvals.

Ø  Non-conventional energy including solar energy equipment/cell SEZ in Gujarat by M/s Euro Multivision Ltd.

Ø  Airport/Aviation sector (including MRO) SEZ in Tamil Nadu by M/s Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited

Ø  Free Trade Warehousing Zone SEZ in Tamil Nadu by M/s Vikram Logistics and Maritime Services Private Limited

Ø  Multi Services SEZs in Maharashtra by M/s Singrun Megaprojects Pvt. Ltd. and M/s Sigrun Megastructure Private Limited 

Formal approval was also granted for setting up of Multi Product SEZ in Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu over an area of 1020 hectares by M/s AMRL International Tech City Limited, a joint venture company of TIDCO.

SEZ approvals advance for IT, biotech, manufacturing and aviation projects across multiple states, including multi product and warehousing zones. Board of Approval recommended grant of formal and in principle approvals for establishment of Special Economic Zones across multiple states and sectors, including IT/ITES, Electronic Hardware, Biotechnology, Textiles, Light Engineering and Non conventional Energy. The Board also recommended conversion of certain in principle approvals to formal approvals and granted a formal approval for a large multi product SEZ in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, to be developed by a joint venture company.
