AI and Big Data Pilot to Cut Road Accidents and Boost Transport Enforcement Under Motor Vehicle Laws
The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has approved an AI and Big Data Analytics pilot project for a state transport department aimed at reducing road accidents and enhancing enforcement efficiency. The project, implemented at no cost by a public sector enterprise in partnership with a global technology firm, will integrate diverse data sources to develop AI models identifying accident causes, forecasting black spots, and supporting real-time policy decisions. The initiative will comply with existing motor vehicle laws and safety regulations, with ongoing audits for legal compliance, data privacy, and cybersecurity. Following a six-week prototype phase, the AI system will be gradually expanded to cover licensing, permits, enforcement, revenue collection, and e-challan operations. The project aims to create a data-driven administrative model to improve governance and policy design without financial liability to the Ministry.
