The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 03 officers/officials of Income Tax Department including Assistant Director, (IRS), Income Tax (Investigation), Inspector and Multi-Tasking Staff at Patna for taking bribe of Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant.
CBI registered the instant case on 15.07.2025 against the said accused personson allegations of demand and acceptance of bribe of Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant for the release of a previously seized amount of Rs.13 lakh and for not initiating any further inquiry against him. The amount of Rs.13 lakh had reportedly been seized from the complainant’s brother-in-law at the Airport which was intimated to the Income Tax Department.
CBI laid a trap and apprehended the accused individuals red-handed while accepting the bribe. During the operation, the agency successfully recovered the bribe money of Rs. 2 lakh which was collected on the direction and on behalf of the accused IRS Officer.
Searches were conducted on 15.07.2025 at 03 different places of accused persons in Patna.
All three accused persons were remanded 03 days CBI custody by CBI Special Court-1, Patna.
Investigation is underway.
Bribe-taking by public officials results in arrest after trap operation and recovery of alleged illicit payment, investigation ongoing. Three Income Tax Department officials, including an Assistant Director (IRS), were arrested on allegations of demanding and accepting a bribe to secure release of seized funds and prevent further inquiry. A trap operation was conducted in which the accused were apprehended accepting the alleged bribe and the money was recovered. Searches were carried out at multiple locations linked to the accused.
