Economic Offences Wing searches seven locations in corruption case involving revenue officials who fraudulently altered land records
The Economic Offences Wing conducted searches at seven locations in Srinagar and Budgam districts in connection with a corruption case against seven individuals, including two revenue department officials. The case involves allegations that a former tehsildar and patwari fraudulently altered revenue records to benefit a private individual. A complainant purchased land for Rs 88.4 lakh and exchanged additional property, but discovered that survey numbers in sale deeds were illegally changed after documents were returned for record updates. Investigation revealed that false mutations were inserted in revenue records, allowing an accused person to sell land that did not belong to him. The revenue officials allegedly conspired to provide undue benefits through these fraudulent insertions. One of the accused officials is also involved in another corruption case from 2021. The searches were conducted with court-obtained warrants as part of the ongoing investigation.
