Driver receives Rs 150 crore land gift from historical family descendant sparks investigation
A former opposition MP alleged the Maharashtra government lost Rs 6.18 crore in stamp duty over a controversial land transfer involving a ruling party MP's driver. The driver claimed to receive a three-acre plot valued at over Rs 150 crore through a gift deed from a descendant of a historical Hyderabad family in February 2023. The opposition leader questioned the legitimacy of the transfer, stating the land was valued at Rs 120 crore per government rates and alleging improper documentation procedures were used. He claimed non-Muslim associates of the MP purchased bond papers for the transfer, which was notarized rather than properly registered. The leader also alleged ministerial pressure to change ownership documents and demanded a high-level committee investigation. The Economic Offences Wing is currently investigating the driver's claims regarding the property transfer.
